Two soldiers die in accident in Eastern Ladakh

Srinagar, July 12 (UNI) A soldier from Kashmir was among the two jawans, who died in an accidental burst in Ladakh region, officials said on Friday.

The incident took place on Thursday during which a soldier, Sankara Rao Gottapu, died on the spot while Havildar Shahnawaz Ahmad Bhat of South Kashmir sustained grievous injuries.

The injured soldier was airlifted to Leh for further treatment.

However, he succumbed to his injuries.Army's Leh based Fire and Fury corps said the incident took place while undertaking critical repair of military equipment.

“On 11 Jul 2024, around 1000 hr while undertaking critical repair of military equipment, Cfn Sankara Rao Gottapu sustained fatal injuries due to an accidental component burst. Hav Shahnawaz Ahmad Bhat, too sustained grievous injuries and was air evacuated for further treatment to Leh. However, despite the best efforts of the medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries in the evening. GOC Fire and Fury Corps and All Ranks salute the Bravehearts who made supreme sacrifice, in the line of duty in #Ladakh on 11 Jul 24 and offer deep condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief," Army's Leh based Fire and Fury corps posted on X.
